At Mind Over Matters, EMDR therapy offers a safe and effective approach to help you heal from distressing or traumatic life experiences. EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) assists the brain to naturally reprocess painful memories, allowing you to move forward with a greater sense of calm, balance, and resilience.
EMDR is recognised as an evidence-based treatment for trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and a range of stress-related difficulties. It helps to reduce the emotional charge linked to past experiences so they no longer feel as overwhelming in the present.
Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR).
We have a trained practitioner who can provide EMDR therapy. Please contact us for more information or to book. AS EMDR is a specialised treatment, session times and fees differ from standard appointments. Visit our FAQs page for more details about EMDR.
EMDR works by activating the brain’s natural healing processes. Through guided eye movements (or other forms of bilateral stimulation such as tapping or sounds), clients safely revisit painful memories while reprocessing them in a way that reduces their impact. This helps shift unhelpful beliefs and allows new, positive perspectives to emerge.
EMDR is suitable for adults experiencing: Post-traumatic stress or distress from past events. Anxiety, panic, or intrusive memories. Low self-esteem or negative self-beliefs, Grief & loss, or critical life stressors

What to expect?
An initial assessment (90 Mins)
Your first EMDR session allows time to build understanding, comfort, and a clear treatment plan. During this session, your therapist will:
Discuss your goals for therapy and what brings you to EMDR
Take a detailed history, including relevant life events, current symptoms, and any previous therapy experiences
Explain the EMDR process, including how bilateral stimulation (eye movements, tapping, or sounds) works to support the brain’s natural healing mechanism
Explore grounding and stabilisation techniques to ensure you feel safe and supported before beginning desensitisation work
This session provides the foundation for future EMDR work and ensures that therapy proceeds at a pace that feels safe and appropriate for you.
