Mental Health Support that actually fits
Trauma-informed, neuro-affirming counselling for anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, burnout, and more in Swan Hill and via telehealth across Victoria and Australia.
Mental health is part of everyday life. It shapes how we think, feel, relate to others, and cope with the ups and downs that naturally come our way. Just like physical health, it doesn’t need to be in crisis to deserve care and attention.
At different times in life, most people experience stress, overwhelm, low mood, anxiety, relationship strain, or simply a sense that something feels “off”. These experiences are human, not signs of failure or weakness.
You don't need to be in crisis to seek support. You don't need a diagnosis, a referral, or a clear explanation of what's wrong. Sometimes the most honest thing a person can say is 'I'm not okay and I don't know why', and that is more than enough to start
At Mind Over Matters we work with people at every stage, from the first tentative recognition that something isn't right, to navigating a specific diagnosis, to rebuilding after significant life events. Whatever brings you here, you are welcome.
Why Mental Health Matters?
We Work With a Wide Range of Mental Health Experiences
You don't need to fit a neat clinical box. If something is getting in the way of you living the life you want, that's enough of a reason to reach out.
Anxiety Anxiety shows up differently for everyone: racing thoughts, physical tension, avoidance, dread, or a constant low hum of worry that never quite switches off. We work with generalised anxiety, social anxiety, health anxiety, phobias, and the particular flavour of anxiety that comes with being neurodivergent in a world that wasn't designed for you.
Depression Low mood, loss of motivation, disconnection from things that used to matter, emotional numbness, exhaustion, depression isn't just sadness. We offer a non-judgmental space to explore what's underneath, and practical, evidence-based support to help you move through it.
Trauma & PTSD Trauma doesn't always look like a single dramatic event. Childhood adversity, complex relational trauma, medical trauma, grief, loss, and the slow accumulation of experiences that left you feeling unsafe in your own body and life, are all forms of trauma we understand and work with. We offer EMDR and trauma-informed counselling for both single-incident and complex trauma.

Grief & Loss Grief is one of the most disorienting experiences a person can go through and one of the least well-supported. Whether you've lost a person, a relationship, an identity, a body, or a version of your future you were counting on, grief deserves space and time, not a timeline.
Burnout Burnout is what happens when you've been running on empty for too long, often because you've been masking, over giving, or holding everything together for everyone else. It goes deeper than tiredness. We support people to understand what led to burnout and rebuild in a way that's actually sustainable.
Stress & Life Transitions Sometimes life just piles up. Career changes, relationship breakdowns, parenting, relocation, health challenges, financial pressure , you don't have to be "unwell" to benefit from support. Having someone in your corner while you navigate a hard stretch matters.
Relationship & Communication Difficulties Whether it's conflict, disconnection, communication breakdowns, or the particular challenges that arise in neurodivergent relationships or partnerships, we offer support for individuals navigating relationship difficulties, and couples therapy (commencing late 2026).
Neurodivergence & Mental Health ADHD, autism, and AuDHD are frequently accompanied by anxiety, depression, and trauma, often as a result of years of masking, misunderstanding, and systems that weren't built for neurodivergent people. We offer integrated support that addresses both the neurodivergence and its mental health impacts.

Eating & Body Image Concerns We provide support for people navigating a complicated relationship with food, eating, and body image. We take a weight-neutral, non-diet approach that centres your relationship with yourself, not a number.
Low Self-Worth & Identity This one doesn't always come with a clinical label, but it's one of the most common things people bring to therapy. A deep sense of not being good enough, not fitting in, or not knowing who you are outside of what you do for others. This is some of the most meaningful work we do.
Our Approach to Mental Health Support
We don't have a one-size-fits-all approach, because you're not a one-size-fits-all person.
Our work is grounded in a combination of evidence-based therapeutic modalities, adapted to suit your brain, your history, and what you're actually here for.
Trauma-Informed Care Everything we do is filtered through a trauma-informed lens. That means we understand that many mental health presentations have their roots in past experiences of harm, loss, or overwhelm — and that feeling safe is the foundation of any real therapeutic work.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) One of the most researched trauma therapies available. We use EMDR for PTSD, complex trauma, anxiety, and phobias. It's effective, evidence-based, and doesn't require you to talk through traumatic experiences in exhaustive detail.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) A practical, structured approach to understanding the links between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Particularly effective for anxiety, depression, and OCD-spectrum difficulties.
Schema Therapy A deeper, integrative approach for people whose difficulties feel rooted in long-standing patterns — often connected to childhood experiences. Schema therapy helps identify and gently shift the core beliefs and coping modes that drive current struggles.
Person-Centred Counselling Sometimes what's needed isn't techniques — it's a genuinely safe space with a therapist who listens without judgment and helps you trust your own experience. Person-centred work underpins everything we do.
Neuro-Affirming Practice We adapt our approach for neurodivergent clients — longer processing time, flexible communication styles, sensory considerations, less reliance on social performance, and an understanding that neurodivergent brains require neurodivergent-aware therapy.

We hear this often. Many people, especially neurodivergent people and those with complex histories, have had therapy experiences that felt unhelpful, invalidating, or even harmful. We take that seriously.
Our approach is to work at your pace, with your consent, without pushing modalities that don't feel right for you. You are allowed to say something isn't working.
